 Spend seven days shooting, learning, and refining your photography across Northern Vietnam with New York Times assignment photographer Justin Mott.

This private workshop is designed for photographers who want a deeply immersive, one-on-one experience focused on visual storytelling, sequencing, and long-form thinking.

This is not a casual trip or photo tour. It is a focused working workshop built around real-world photography in both urban and rural environments.

You will work across the energy of Hanoi and the landscapes of Northern Vietnam, developing your ability to observe, adapt, and build stronger, more intentional images over time.

The goal is simple. Build a stronger body of work and a more refined photographic approach.

What You’ll Do

This is a fully immersive workshop built around shooting, reviewing, and refining your work every day.

You will work through real-world assignments, photograph in a range of environments, and receive continuous one-on-one feedback throughout the program.

With dedicated time in the field, the focus expands beyond individual images to sequencing, consistency, and building a more complete visual story.

You’ll also gain access to locations, subjects, and situations that are not easily accessible without local knowledge and support.

Workshop Experience

This workshop is led by Justin Mott with local production support throughout the journey.

Justin leads all instruction, assignments, and daily reviews, drawing from his experience working on editorial and long-form documentary assignments internationally.

This is a private, one-on-one experience tailored entirely to your goals and level.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1–2
Hanoi street photography, markets, and environmental portraits
Daily reviews

Day 3–6
Travel to Northern Vietnam including Sa Pa region
Landscape, cultural, and documentary photography
Work with local communities and guided access
Daily reviews and sequencing guidance

Day 7
Final shooting session
Comprehensive review and portfolio feedback

Itinerary

 Day 1: Arrival + Check in + Meet & Greet at The Motts' residence + Sequencing assignment
Day 2: Sunrise around Hoàn Kiếm Lake + Long Biên Bridge + Đồng Xuân Market + Food experience
Day 3: Shooting with models at Temple of Literature + Check out + Train to Sapa
Day 4 - Topas: Lào Cai Train Station + Check-in + Shooting + Daily review+ Lecture/Tip/Portfolio review
Day 5: Final assignment + Passing through Sapa Town + Editing final assignment
Day 6: Final review and presentation + Drive to HN + Farewell dinner + Wrap the workshop
Day 7: Departure

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• The workshop reserves the right to cancel the workshop between 45 and 30 days prior to the first day of the scheduled dates.

• In such cases, full payment will be refunded, excluding any flight change fees and any other costs incurred beyond the workshop payment.

• A Participant may cancel their booking up to 3 months prior to the workshop start date and receive a refund of the payment, minus bank charges and administrative fees.

• If a participant cancels between 3 months and 1 month before the workshop start date, 50% of the payment will be refunded. If another participant fills the canceled spot, the full payment will be refunded, minus bank charges and administrative fees.

• A participant must sign a waiver prior to arriving in Vietnam for the workshop.

• A participant is fully responsible for their own equipment.

• Written confirmation of the private workshop dates and times is required prior to making the full payment at the time of booking.
